STEM + Spatial Reasoning

As STEM competency is a requirement for liveable wage careers, we work to improve the critical thinking and spatial reasoning skills for black and brown students from low income families to increase the pipeline of students entering and persisting in STEM majors. We do this in a variety of ways to include STEM-related (e.g., AR) workshops, robotic/hackathon competitions and educator professional development.

Research-driven pedagogical cognitive abilities that are prerequisites to success in STEM include spatial reasoning and critical thinking. Both skills can be developed through physical hands-on activities and by curating AR/VR resources as well as employing our youth to create their own solutions and content we seek to increase adoption and usage across our partner network to improve these critical skills in students and therefore STEM outcomes in their first year of college. We will seek to measure these interventions with our university and public school partnerships.
